Electric Bike Share Scheme

Lochaber Environmental Group has secured funding from round 3 of the Low Carbon Travel and Transport Challenge Fund (LCTT) and Highland Council to deliver a public Electric Bike Hire Scheme in Fort William.

The ebike hire scheme will use electric bike share equipment and technology to deliver a state-of-the-art active travel system comprising of 80 electric bikes, 15 docking stations for securing and charging bikes, advanced IT solutions and a mobile App to unlock bikes, monitor individual bike rides and track bike locations. The ebike hire scheme will provide easy access to electric bikes with charging stations at key locations around Fort William including the town centre, transport centre, and residential areas.

Community and business engagement is an important part of the project to raise awareness about the scheme, improve cycling skills and confidence, and increase the number of residents riding ebikes on a daily basis. We will be working with local businesses and organisations to develop ebike business ambassador roles, providing employers with information about the scheme and facilities they need to encourage their staff to use the ebike hire scheme.

A total of £9,462,015.44 was awarded to ten organisations in round 3 of the LCTT Challenge Fund, with support from European Regional Development Funds and Transport Scotland.  The list of funding awards has details on the awarded projects, with a map showing the location of projects from all three rounds.
