Climate Challenge Fund – Lochaber Energy & Waste Project 2017/2018

Lochaber Environmental Group (LEG) from secured a share of almost £10 million made available through the Scottish Government’s Climate Challenge Fund. Lochaber Environmental Group have secured £99,966 for the project.

The Climate Challenge Fund is a Scottish Government grant programme that is managed and administered by Keep Scotland Beautiful.


The aims of the project were:

The Lochaber Energy & Waste project help residents throughout Lochaber reduce their carbon emissions and environmental impact. The project will empower people to reduce waste, to reuse and recycle household items and to improve domestic energy efficiency. We will be offering Lochaber householders free energy surveys to help  lower energy bills & usage. Alongside this we will be carrying out school environmental education classes across Lochaber, hosting fuel efficient driver training, swap shops, repair workshops and offering out free home composting bins to help the lower carbon footprint of Lochaber. Since the Climate Challenge Fund was introduced in 2008, 622 communities across Scotland have been awarded grants totalling £85.8 million to run community-led projects that reduce local carbon emissions, improve their local areas and help them adapt to the impacts of climate change.
